justify my love THE BEAST WITHIN MIX

In Madonna's twenty years of making music, nothing is quite like the Beast Within Mix of "Justify My Love." Substituting nearly all of the song's lyrics with Biblical quotes, the only lines left intact from the original version are "Wanting, needing, waiting for you to justify my love / Hoping, praying for you to justify my love." Some see this remix as simply Madonna pushing buttons for fun, while others take it quite seriously as a direct address to God. In that sense, is Madonna asking God to justify her love for him? Give us a reason to believe? This remix is often considered to be a separate song entirely, and is one of the fans' most beloved tracks.

notes:
You know you're a big star when a remix causes controversy -- one line in the Beast Within Mix was perceived as offensive to Jews: "And the slander of those who say that they are Jews, but they are not / They are a synagogue of Satan," and was removed from some versions of the remix. Contextually, however, it is clear that the line does not denounce Jews in any manner.
