Everything about the release of the "Ray of Light" album marked something new for Madonna -- new producers, new video directors, a new look, and even new remixers. The most high profile of which was Victor Calderone, who is now easily the most prolific of Madonna's remixers. His first effort is considered one of his best, and is the only true dance remix of this techno ballad. This mix introduced Calderone's signature style -- an extended build up where a lyric fragment of the song is repeated, followed by a breakdown, the bulk of the song's vocals, another break down, and then an outro. He would stick by this formula until his Sensory mix of "Don't Tell Me." |
