Lauded
by many fans as not only the best track on "Music,"
but one of the best songs in Madonna's entire
career, "Impressive Instant"
served as the unofficial theme song to her 2001 Drowned
World Tour. Unfortunately,
"Impressive Instant" was never released
as a single, perhaps the biggest travesty in
Madonna's career. Fortunately, a few remixes were
commissioned and the track was serviced to clubs
-- the perfect atmosphere for this trippy
techno-infused opus to instantaneous attraction.
The song itself is without a doubt one of the
most innovative of Madonna's career. Madonna's
voice is filtered through auto-tuners and other
special effects throughout the song, and producer
Mirwais added unexpected vocal
tics and twitches, pitch-shifting Madonna's voice
when you'd least expect it. And then, of course,
there's that bridge. "I like to singy singy
singy / like a bird on a wingy wingy / I like to
rhumba rhumba rhumba / dance to samba samba
samba." When the lyrics were released before
the song was available, fans scratched their
heads at the incredibly bizarre lines -- but now
this brief sing-along stands as a highlight on
"Impressive Instant."
NOTE: The "single cover" used above
is not real - it is a fan creation done by former
Dotmusic and Madonnarama regular
"InfidelRokkit."
TRIVIA: When William
Orbit first heard "Impressive
Instant," he was so awed by the
Mirwais-produced track that he thought it easily
outdid his own work with Madonna.
