Recorded during the "Erotica"
sessions with Shep Pettibone, "This
Used To Be My Playground" was
released in conjunction with the hit film "A
League Of Their Own," which
co-starred Tom Hanks, Geena
Davis, and Rosie O'Donnell.
The ballad is one of Madonna's simplest, and
appealed heavily to an older, more sentimental
audience. The video is unique, as director Alek
Keshishian tried to do something unique
by featuring Madonna and clips from the film as
pages in a book, but the effect perhaps left a
little to be desired, as the pacing of the clip
suffers. Of Madonna's many number ones,
"This Used To Be My Playground" is the
one that just barely eked out a week in the top
spot. The song missed the top of both the airplay
and sales charts, but its total chart points
allowed it to just barely snag #1.
TRIVIA: "This Used To Be
My Playground" was actually released only on
the 1992 Olympics album "Barcelona
Gold," and remained unavailable on
a Madonna album until 1995, when it was included
on "Something To Remember."
