During the
"American Life" era, Madonna
has seemed more remix-happy than ever
before in her career. The "American
Life" project may have had its
disappointments, but there has been a
steady stream of remixes for so many
tracks and from so many different DJs
that Madonna even released "Remixed
& Revisited," her first remix
collection since "You Can
Dance." "Nobody Knows Me"
received particular remix attention and
seemed like the most
"club-ready" track on the
album, although many fans agreed that its
hard electronic touches didn't make it a
great fit for pop radio. (Although
remixes were available on the
"Nothing Fails" single,
"Nobody Knows Me" was never
promoted as a single outside of US
clubs.)
The song followed in the
footsteps of "Impressive
Instant" as a club play-only single,
although it couldn't match the #1 peak of
II. It was her first single to miss the
top spot on the Club Play chart since the
GHV2 Megamix. Nevertheless, the song kept
Madonna's high profile in the clubs, and
for several weeks was one of three
Madonna songs on the Club Play top 50.
"Nobody Knows
Me" is also the title of Madonna's
special fan club-only photo book
profiling her career.
