Much like "Hanky
Panky" and "Rescue Me,"
"Keep It Together" got
lost among some of Madonna's biggest career
moments as she entered the '90s. Released after
"Oh Father" became
Madonna's first single to miss the top ten since
"Holiday," "Keep
It Together" went back to a more basic,
uptempo sound. It was a definite hit, managing to
enter the top ten and sell over 500,000 copies,
but the lack of a video and the fact that the
song lacked the dynamic sound and message of the
other "Like A Prayer" singles prevented
the track from burning itself into pop culture
history. Still, many fans appreciate the song's
celebration of family: "Don't forget that
your family is gold." This is also one of
the few times that the US has received a single
when other major territories did not. |
