Like such singles as "Drowned
World/Substitute for Love" and
"Dear Jessie," "Fever"
was released internationally but not in the
United States. It was released as the B-side to
"Bad Girl" and
featured a rather unique video, but otherwise
made little dent on the US outside of the Club
Play chart. It was wisely released as a slightly
souped-up re-edit often referred to as Edit One,
which was used for the video. The video,
directed by Stephane Sednaoui
(who would later introduce Madonna to
"Music" producer Mirwais),
showed Madonna with bright red hair, wearing
various bizarre outfits, including one where she
was drenched entirely in silver paint. Other than
the elaborate costume design, it was a relatively
simple clip as Madonna simply moved about in
front of a screen featuring various imagery.
TRIVIA: Peaking at #1 on the
Club Play chart, "Fever" marks
Madonna's most successful club hit not released
as a proper single in the US. Also, for those who
don't already know, "Fever" is a
musical standard written nearly fifty years ago,
and has been covered by numerous other artists.
