Although it peaked at #5,
comparatively speaking "Dress You Up"
ranks as one of Madonna's less successful singles
from the '80s -- it stands as her only single
from 1984 to 1989 to miss the top ten in sales.
The single had a video that was just footage from
Madonna's Virgin Tour, and the song itself was a
bit of a stretch with its chours, "I'm gonna
dress you up in my love, all over your body, from
your head down to your toes." However,
the song's place in pop culture history was
cemented when Gap Clothing
decided to feature the track in one of its TV
commercials in the late '90s. The Dust
Brothers remixed the song and the models
in the ad sang the lyrics instead of Madonna. The
ad campaign was considered quite a success, and
it got people humming along to this
almost-forgotten hit.
