Madonna's career was
lightning-hot in 1987, coming right after "True
Blue," her biggest album worldwide
and the only album of her career to spawn
multiple #1 singles. It comes as no surprise then
that the two singles from the "Who's
That Girl" soundtrack flew up the
charts. "Causing A Commotion"
couldn't quite hit #1, but managed to spend 3
weeks in the runner up spot. Despite this
success, it seemed as though the songs on the
"Who's That Girl" soundtrack marked a
creative step backwards from the mature, timeless
sound of her singles from the "True
Blue" album. Indeed, "Causing A
Commotion" has possibly the most dated sound
of all her '80s hits. Although the song lacked a
video, she did perform the track for the 1987 MTV
Video Music Awards, although it was live via
satellite.
TRIVIA: Madonna did not
release any music in 1988, and her chart presence
on Billboard would have been nonexistent that
year if not for one thing -- "Causing A
Commotion" spent its last week on the chart
during the first week of 1988.
